We started class by continuing our look at the horrible Haitian earthquake. More footage is coming in and watching the rescue attempts and plight of the people is very shocking and sad. I also led a discussion about the history of Haiti as a former colony of France and later its problems with governments and corruption.
A chart was constructed showing the territories of the U.S. and how they were acquired. "We Bought, We Claimed, We Took and We Won".
Today and tomorrow we will finish the unit by looking at the construction of the Panama Canal. We will look at the history of constructing a canal, how the U.S. got the deal done, and the construction and operation of the canal.
